A young bride in a Polish shtetl is possessed by the spirit of her dead beloved in this Yiddish classic rooted in Jewish folklore. Written in 1914 by S. Ansky and adapted by Tony Kushner, The Seattle Jewish Theater Company presents this tale of love caught between two worlds and a community dealing with mysterious, other-worldly forces. Directed by SJTC artistic director Art Feinglass.

Called “the Israeli This American Life,” by NPR radio host Ira Glass (who should know – he’s the host of This American Life), Israel Story is an award-winning radio show that showcases the diversity and complexity of everyday Israelis.  They’re coming to the J with their live multimedia storytelling and musical performance in celebration of Israel Independence Day. Author David Kertzer talks about his work in a conversation moderated by his Seattle-based brother, Jon Kertzer, a Seattle music luminary, scholar, and KEXP/KBCS radio host. The brothers will discuss David’s Pulitzer-winning biography “The Pope and Mussolini,” as well as “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara,” a National Book Award finalist in 1997 that’s being adapted by Tony Kushner and Steven Spielberg for 2017 film release, starring Mark Rylance.

Introduction to Home Canning, Pickling, and Preserving

Canning is all about locking in great local, fresh, seasonal flavors, so that you can enjoy them throughout the year! During Tu B’Shevat (the Jewish holiday of trees) participants will learn canning science and safety, and  leave with jars of food and the skills to continue pickling at home! Taught by instructor Josh Furman. Prices include $5 canning supply fee.
